YOU WANT TO BUY AN ANIMAL FROM THE LIVESTOCK SHOW
Animals are sold on a per pound basis.
A 260 pound market hog selling for $4.00 a pound would cost the buyer $1040.
The buyer then owns the hog and can arrange with a custom slaughtering house for pick up, cutting and wrapping.
At the 2022 show,
Steers ranged in price from $3.00 - $5.50 a pound (Steers weigh over 1000 pounds)
Pigs ranged in price from $2.25 - $20.00 a pound (Hogs weigh from 220-280 pounds)
Lamb prices were around $2.75 - $10.00 a pound (Lambs are over 105 pounds)
Goat prices were $3.50 - $9.25 (Goats are over 65 pounds)
Chickens sold for $200 - $500 for a lot of three.
The sale money is awarded to the student for their project.
Prices vary based on the animal, it’s placing in the show and interest in the animal.
YOU WANT TO SUPPORT AN ANIMAL AT THE LIVESTOCK SHOW BUT YOU DON’T WANT TO PURCHASE AN ANIMAL
You can support the students by providing support on their project animals.
The show has a buyer for the animals at market price, you support is added above the market price to support the student’s project.
Here’s an example:
A 280 pound market hog
Market price is $.70 a pound
Sale price is $3.00 a pound
280 pounds at $3.00 / pound is $840
Market price is $.70 / pound or $196
Added support is $2.30 / pound or $644
THE SUPPORTER PAYS THE $644 AND THE PACKER BUYS THE ANIMAL AT $196.
All the money goes to the student.
Support on a full hog is around $600 and support for chickens is around $300. Support for a full lamb or goat is around $400, and a steer can be supported for $3000

Additional money for any exhibitor can be added to their check. These add ons vary in value based on what the sponsor can provide.
